Dr. Packard and Dr. Weaver are both Approved EMDR Consultants through EMDRIA. Both clinicians, through the Center for Intuitive Practices, LLC. are currently in the process of having their training program approved by the International Association for EMDR, (EMDRIA). Future training will be offered live on Zoom.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a highly researched and evidence based therapeutic approach used to treat individuals with trauma and other psychological conditions. EMDR therapy training is divided into two parts, Part I and Part II. These training programs are designed to ensure that therapists are competent in delivering EMDR therapy effectively and safely.

EMDR Training Part I:

  1. Eligibility: EMDR Part I training is typically open to licensed mental health professionals. Participants should have a foundational understanding of psychotherapy and counseling techniques.

  2. Content: Part I training covers the basics of EMDR therapy, including its theoretical foundations, the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, along with the eight phases of EMDR therapy. Trainees will learn the principles and procedures of EMDR, how to assess clients' suitability for EMDR, and how to create a safe and therapeutic environment for EMDR sessions.

  3. Practical Experience: Participants will practice EMDR techniques under the guidance of a certified EMDR trainer. This includes hands-on experience with using bilateral stimulation (typically through eye movements, tapping, or auditory cues) to process traumatic memories and facilitate healing.

EMDR Training Part II:

  1. Eligibility: Center for Intuitive Practices (CIP) will offer Part II training for those who have completed Part I training with CIP.

  2. Content: Part II training builds upon the foundational knowledge from Part I and focuses on advanced EMDR techniques and case conceptualization. Trainees will learn how to work with more complex cases, including clients with comorbid diagnoses and complex trauma histories.

  3. Practical Experience: Part II training includes supervised practice sessions, case consultations, and discussions of challenging cases. It provides an opportunity for trainees to refine their skills and receive feedback from experienced EMDR trainers.

Certification as an EMDR Therapist:

After completing both Part I and Part II of EMDR training, The Center for Intuitive Practices will offer ten (10) hours of consultation as part of the training package. The ten (10) hours of consultation are required for individuals who are seeking to fulfill EMDRIA requirements.

Once these requirements are met, trainees can submit their completed hours to CIP and then be considered an EMDR Trained therapist (via EMDRIA). Certification is an additional level of training, consultation, and education. Certification level demonstrates competence in using EMDR therapy to treat clients with trauma and related issues. Dr. Packard and Dr. Weaver will help to guide you through this process.
