EMDR Policy

The Center for Intuitive Practices, LLC, adheres to the below responsibility of EMDR Trainers. These responsibilities encompass strict adherence to current EMDR International Association Policies, as well as compliance with the Learning Management System (LMS) Platform and Technology Standards, EMDR Basic Training Curriculum Requirements, Learning Assessment Requirements, and all other policies and prerequisites associated with basic training. Please refer to details below and visit EMDRIA Policies for more details. It is imperative to emphasize that these training policies and requirements are universally applicable to all EMDR basic training sessions, whether conducted virtually or in-person.

EMDRIA logo and copyright infringement:

Please be aware that the EMDRIA logo, along with logos for the monthly E-Newsletter, Go with That magazine, and the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research, are the exclusive property of the EMDR International Association. Unauthorized utilization of the corporate logo, tagline, or any logos resembling branding is strictly prohibited without documented explicit permission.

Equal Opportunity: Center for Intuitive Practices trainers must adhere to EMDRIA's policies on the Professional Code of Conduct, Sexual Orientation and Cultural Competence (SOCE), and Diversity. They must foster a supportive training environment, ensuring fairness and respect regardless of an individual's sexual orientation, gender identity, racial background, ethnicity, cultural affiliation, or religious beliefs. Discriminatory behavior or biases are strictly prohibited. Moreover, trainers should appropriately address issues of cultural diversity during EMDR basic training.

Under the purview of equal access, it's essential to note that the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) mandates equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Trainers must ensure that facilities and reasonable accommodations are accessible to those with disabilities, a critical detail that must be included in promotional training materials.

Learning Management System (LMS) Platform is a mandatory component of EMDR basic training, irrespective of whether the training sessions are conducted virtually or in-person. This platform streamlines the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting, and delivery of EMDR basic training content. The Center for Intuitive Practices, LLC utilizes Thinkific learning platform. Please click on our Learning Center Tab to access our Thinkific Learning Platform.

Trainees embarking on the EMDR basic training journey must complete the entire program within 12 months from their initial start date. This information is transparently communicated here, and will be repeated in text before registration, and included in promotional training materials. Trainers must have the necessary resources and capacity to support trainees in completing the training. In extraordinary circumstances, such as humanitarian crises, trainers may exercise discretion in granting exceptions, provided there is a policy in place to facilitate trainee completion.

For virtual EMDR basic training sessions, class sizes are limited to a maximum of 100 trainees. In contrast, there are currently no limitations on class sizes for in-person EMDR basic trainings.

Eligibility: Trainers bear the responsibility of ensuring that prospective trainees meet the current eligibility requirements for EMDR basic training. It is important to underscore that EMDRIA does not verify individual clinicians' scopes of practice or their ability to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health issues. Clinicians are accountable for working within their mental health scope of practice.

To ensure clarity and transparency, trainers must provide prospective trainees with a participant agreement form that outlines the EMDR basic training requirements, expectations, and preparations.

Please note that only individuals approved by EMDRIA as EMDR Trainers are eligible to lead and instruct EMDR basic training sessions.

Regarding the faculty who assist during the practicum segment of the training, the Center for Intuitive Practices adheres to EMDRIA stipulations that faculty must maintain active status as an EMDR Consultant or, at a minimum, as an EMDR Consultant in Training actively engaged with an EMDR Consultant. The ratio of practicum faculty to trainees should not exceed 1:10 to enable direct behavioral observation of each trainee.

Similarly, for the consultation portion of the training, faculty members must maintain active status as EMDR Consultants or EMDR Consultants in Training actively working with an EMDR Consultant. The ratio of consultants to trainees should not exceed 1:10, with smaller ratios being encouraged.

When advertising EMDR basic training, trainers must offer and promote a comprehensive training program, comprising a minimum of 50 hours. Only complete and comprehensive training events will be listed on the EMDRIA calendar.

Payment: Transparency is vital in matters of cost. Trainers must disclose the full cost of the entire EMDR basic training upfront and before registration. The cost of all Center for Intuitive Practices trainings is available on our Thinkific learning site prior to purchase. If consultation hours are not covered in the registration fees, trainers must provide an estimated cost range for obtaining the 10 consultation hours. This information will be included in promotional training materials.

Trainers must inform prospective trainees that 10 consultation hours are required to complete the EMDR basic training. Disclosure should indicate whether these consultation hours are included in the registration fees or if trainees are responsible for separate additional fees. Furthermore, trainers must clarify whether trainees must schedule consultation hours outside of the training or if these hours are integrated into the course and provided during the scheduled training dates. This information must be included in promotional training materials.

In cases where trainees are responsible for obtaining consultation hours independently, trainers must provide comprehensive information about the consultation process, including the names and contact information of consultants offering these hours.

Cancellation and refund policies must be made readily available and accessible to prospective trainees, with transparency and clarity being of utmost importance. These policies should be presented upfront, prior to registration, and will be included in promotional training materials.

A grievance process must be established by trainers to address and resolve complaints and grievances, should they arise. This information should be easily accessible to trainees.

The required reading materials for EMDR basic training include:

  1. Shapiro, Francine. (2018). Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Third Edition: Basic Principles, Protocols, and Procedures. New York: Guildford Press.

  2. Go With That Magazine Fall 2020, Volume 25, Issue 3 [EMDR & Racial Trauma].

  3. Guidelines for Virtual EMDR Therapy (Spring 2020).

Regarding learner assessment, trainers are required to administer the required Learner Assessment during the EMDR basic training. There is no specific passing grade requirement, and the method of assessment issuance is flexible. The only stipulation is that trainees must complete the assessment, and trainers are obliged to track trainee completion and retain individual scores. This process will be completed on our Thinkific learning platform.

Survey: Trainers must offer trainees the opportunity to complete the EMDRIA survey regarding their training experience. This general survey pertains to the EMDR basic training and facilitates direct feedback to EMDRIA. A survey is provided at the completion for all Center for Intuitive Practices.

Feedback from trainees concerning the quality of instruction, trainer and assisting faculty knowledge and expertise, training usefulness, and fulfillment of educational objectives should be obtained by trainers. This feedback should inform adjustments and improvements to the overall training program. Feedback is reviewed monthly by Dr. Packard, CEO and Founder, and Dr. Weaver, Director of Continuing Education.

Certificate: Upon completion of the entire (minimum 50-hour) course, trainers will issue a final EMDR basic training certificate of completion to trainees within the Thinkific course. The certificate must include the trainee's name, the name of the EMDR Trainer(s), the training organization (if applicable), the total number of training hours for the course (a minimum of 50 hours), and the date (month/day/year) on which they completed the EMDR basic training. Those who complete the training can designate themselves as "EMDR Trained." All certificates for those completing courses with Center for Intuitive Practices, can be found in the learner’s dashboard.

Trainers will maintain trainee records for a minimum of five years. Within 120 days of the training's conclusion, trainers must submit training rosters to EMDRIA. These rosters will be in spreadsheet format and include the name of the training organization (if applicable), the name of the EMDR Trainer, trainee names, licenses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and EMDR basic training completion dates. A template for the basic training roster spreadsheet is available for download.
